Virtual Reality’s Psychological and Behavioral Effects

Virtual Reality’s Psychological and Behavioral Effects

While we’ve seen and used many virtual reality products aimed at consumers, there’s also a lot of research in academia using virtual reality to study human psychology and behavior. We visit Stanford University’s Virtual Human Interaction Lab to run through their VR demos and hear what researchers have learned from these VR experiments.

Thanks to Stanford’s VHIL for sharing these demos with us. Learn more about their work at https://vhil.stanford.edu/

  • I can't wait to afford this technology. Fuck, man, I've been waiting all my life.

  • random though: People tend to remember things better when associating with emotions. I wonder if this considered this in their "use less paper" study. people may be remembering it long after the study because : it was a cool exciting experience. more so than because the haptic feedback made it real.

  • psychology is a joke at university

  • it always amazes me when morbidly obese people are pyschologists, get yourself together first ffs

  • Anyone else notice at 1:37 she mouths "yep" and "okay" before speaking?

  • fuck this shit . so mutch bullshit – ignore all the casual scrubs, and put Some ignorant PC masterrace Elite scumbag like me with horrible attitude, total nolife gamer like me

  • i want to cut trees and kill almost extinct animals.

  • was pretty interested to see some valid research. pretty disappointed to see these jokers wasting good vr/money. theyve had their hands of vr for 10 years and already private companies have far surpassed their "research" techniques after just a couple years of gaming/consumer vr development. wonder if their bubble will burst or if a vr company will just adopt their studies directly into a corporate fold

  • how about how badly this is filmed and put together. couldve been quite interesting in a different format. "how to make this more exciting to watch? "

  • Well, the negative psychological effects aren't exactly worth studying as it is. There are just some people who fail to keep reality and fantasy separate. That's not going away with any new media. It also isn't any worse with any new media. It also isn't caused by the media. It is caused by people's inability to keep the distinction clear.

Claiming any new media causes aggression is akin to claiming something else now causes cancer under the list of everything in the world causing cancer.

  • Buahahaha… psycho researchers. Who pays for that? Who pays that fatty?

  • just wait tell you get to watch advertisements in VR………

  • Humans are not so complicated, you'v two camps, those that like reality & those that hate reality, vr is gonna be huge.

  • I really need violent VR content in my life.

  • what the eyes see and the ears hear the mind believes.

  • 8:00….that's otherwise known simply as Hype.

  • 4:27 "oh, nice wall!" ๐Ÿ˜€

  • FACT….ALL OF THIS….( SCI-FI NEW TECHNOLOGY )….IS HAVING A….( 99% NEGATIVE EFFECT ON HUMANS IN 2017 )….AND….( 3017 )….I DON'T THINK THE HUMAN RACE WILL MAKE IT THAT FAR TO….( 3017 )….ALL THIS EVIL SCIFI TECHNOLOGY THAT HUMANS MAKE….WONT ALLOW….( HUMANS TO LIVE ANOTHER 1,000 THOUSAND YEARS ON EARTH )

  • Awesome

  • ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ–•

  • VR is bullshit, all these channels that talk about VR and bullshit too. All they talk about is other people doing things with VR or talk about other people doing experiments. Most of the stuff VR is used for is really not positive to us. Playing video games where you get to feel what it's like to kill others is really a negative than a positive. After all the end result is one gets so hooked on VR they put on so much weight they are unable to move from their monitor.
