Psychology & Islam | Haleh Banani

What role does Psychology play when it comes to dealing with challenges from an Islamic perspective? We had the pleasure of interviewing Haleh Banani. She has a Masters of Clinical Psychology with 20 years of experience within the field of Islam and Psychology. She is also the host of her own TV show, “With Haleh” which combines principles of psychology and Islam to help people reach their potential.

  • At about 3:26 you ask a very helpful question: What is the the Islamic basis that Ms. Banani brings to the table when addressing issues? In responding to this, I like how she invokes aqidah and fiqh, explaining it is important to understand one's obligations within Islam, but she doesn't get bogged down defining and explaining these. Rather, she focuses on her area of expertise and urges one to find inspiration in the principles of Islam. "To live and love for a higher purpose." Mashallah. Thank you. It's easy to just hear the words of this interview, but seems very worthwile to reflect on this idea of giving ourselves over to relationship as a path to understanding Love in the highest sense. … While many of the examples in this video suggest clients in crisis, I don't think we need to be in a difficult psychological state to benefit from what Ms. Banani points towards.
