  • I went to the website and I have a few criticisms.First of all, it seems more like a commercial business than real scientific research. They want people to sign up for the courses, and buy the book(s).
I did a couple of the experimental questionnaires but all it did at the end was tell me how I scored in comparison to others who took the test. The tests merely reiterated my own answers back to me at the end with a suggestion that if I wanted to know more I could buy the book.$

  • You're*

  • Hey Will….you must be English, arrogant and self righteous…here is a comment from a red neck…stick You're where the sun don't shine dickhead,,,or would that be spelled DICK-HEAD….or how about DYCK HEAD…nice tie by the way…..yepper…..

  • Experimental practices such as those were commonplace and took place in the 1960's. They have long since been denounced by Dr Seligman and others. Look up the facts first before posting reactionary misinformation. Current research in to learned helplessness involves naturalistic studies of people in their environment, as well as apes in their environment (such as Dr Sapolsky's work).

  • You sound quite perturbed. That aside, I'd urge you to consider a Utilitarian point of view. The things we've learned from Seligman's positive psychological experiments have the great potential to aid the flourishing of all humankind. Prior to 1999, it is true that he worked in what he now consider's the "half-baked" side of psychology (the negative, weaknesses side), but his breakthroughs in that field are no less substantial or contributory to humans' well-being.

  • Totally true. Lets free these happy little animals into the wilds, where they will torture and eat other animals, or will be tortured and eaten. Learn for once what animal ethical committee is.

  • Torture?

  • Is it just me, or is this guy a very dry and not very palatable speaker?

  • I see why his speaking is so off-putting. It's one huge run-on sentence, interrupted by parenthetical statements. He keeps saying, And…statement, parenthetical statement, statement, And, statement, parenthetical statement, statement….And…uh, And…..uh, And and so on. Very hard to listen to for any length of time. Then he walks around for no apparent reason.

  • Positive psychology answers the question of how to make things better.

  • As far as "torturing" goes, almost every neighbor has a dog that barks all day long while the owners are away. This is torture to me and if I could give them a little electric shock to train them to be quiet, my well being would increase by many points. Please know that I am expressing a sense of humor with this suggestion.

  • THANK YOU.

  • could have been better camera work to see the slides whilst he was pointing … outstanding otherwise!

  • Dr Seligman I think this  new positive psychology  theory "well being " it may change the entire world…because we if focused more on the positive aspects of life we could always build strength to fight against any kind of evil work…Well-being theory isn't self-cantered, is constructive <3 that intends to provide us the full understanding of all the elements that are measured. thank you for the  PP.

  • Martin Seligman at the Happiness and its Causes Conference, a favourite!

  • Martin Seligman is very informative ,but was very disappointed in the lack of  the power point.

  • who is this woman presenting??

  • I was there in the audience in 2012 in Sydney! My hero!

  • From where can i get the german transcription?

  • love love love love love love love love love loveeee

  • Thank You So Much

  • Seligman is superb in his justification of his views.

  • Great! How about the field of psychology quit using mind control to destroy talented people? He studied how to create learned helplessness which is being used in organized gang stalking/electronics harassment to destroy the world's brightest people with the highest integrity. The field of mental health needs to clean up the messes they've created in the past century. Then the world can live without being harmfully experimented upon. TY!
